Your
courses will be facilitated by APD's President, Douglas A. Thompson. Mr.
Thompson has more than 40 years experience as a professional land surveyor
and mapper. Licensed in several states, he has been providing tidal boundary
survey training since 1996 in coastal states along the Atlantic and
Gulf Coast.
His work at the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection included directing the Florida – NOS Joint
Funding Agreement (Marine Boundary Program) from 1981 through 1991 during
which time more than 1000 tide stations were established along the state’s 8,400 mile
shoreline. Since 1991, Mr. Thompson has administrated the Florida Coastal Mapping Act of 1974.
Author of
The
Florida Mean High Water Surveying Handbook, Mr. Thompson is known
and respected throughout the United States by both public sector and private
sector survey professionals for his in-depth knowledge of the requirements,
practices, procedures, and laws governing tidal boundary surveys.
While attached to the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service, Region IV in Atlanta, GA, Mr. Thompson completed a
comprehensive review of the entire body of case law concerning tidal datums
in the Southeast United States.
Mr. Thompson's formal education includes the
Ohio College of Applied Sciences (now the University of Cincinnati) and Florida State
University. He has been employed as a survey professional in the private
sector and has extensive public sector experience in
State and Federal positions. Mr. Thompson is a recipient of the coveted
State of Florida Davis
Productivity Award.
